Ore movement: HC refuses stay on ban

Several truck owners had filed a petition seeking stay the ban from May 15 to September 15.  During the hearing, Advocate General Ashok Haranahalli informed the court that more than 3,000 truck ply on the stretch per month. Three to four lorries pass on the road leading to increasing number of accidents, he submitted.

The court sought to know whether there was any such condition for the truck operators while giving them permit. Haranahalli replied that no such conditions were put while giving permit but the ban has been imposed in view of public interest.

The Division Bench comprising Justices N K Patil and S K Bopanna opined that allowing vehicular movement on this stretch will not be appropriate at this point of time.
Suspension stayed

The High Court has stayed the suspension of eight Congress members of Doddaballapur Town Municipal Council for violating whip.

A no confidence motion was moved against TMC president Ramakrishna on August 3, 2009. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Desphande had issued whip to all the Congress members to vote against the motion.

However, Rajamma and seven others are accused of violating the whip by voting against Ramakrishna following which their memberships were suspended.
