Omar informed Vohra about his recent visit to New Delhi and the meetings he had with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

The sources said the chief minister apprised the governor about the ongoing meetings of various district development boards and the steps being taken to speed up the implementation of development and welfare schemes.

An official spokesman said the governor expressed his serious concern about the grave consequences of the disruption of academic schedules. To identify various possible remedial steps it was agreed that the governor, along with the chief minister, would convene an urgent meeting with the vice chancellors and education authorities.

Meanwhile, life continued to remain paralysed because of the ongoing strike and protests called by the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
