More shandies in State to help farmers

Speaking at farmers’ convention and the opening of farmers’ market in the city on Friday, Agriculture Marketing Minister Shivaraj S Tangadagi said that twelve shandies will be established in the city of Bangalore as well.

The shandies will be set up with not only eliminate middlemen, but also enable better rates for the farmers. Relating other measures taken to make it easier for farmers, the Minister said that all the APMCs will have electronic weighing machines by the end of December. Six districts have been identified for the free transportation of produce and by next August, adequate preparations would be made for free transportation of vegetables and fruits. The Minister also stated that Rs 507 crore has been sanctioned for the infrastructure improvement in all the APMC markets.
