JOIN USThe City experienced another EDM festival called ‘Cirkus Indigo’ over the weekend. It was curated by Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker, whose aim was to have a festival for Bangalore and by Bangaloreans.
Spread across two days at Jayamahal Palace Hotel, the single stage hosted local DJs like Vishnu, Ivan and ‘Twokid Wickid’ while also introducing music lovers to international DJs like Justin Prime, Rene Amesz, Norman Doray and Stefano Noferini among others.
The debut edition was well-attended and planned. Unlike most dance music festivals, this one had a fun party vibe where even the drunk attendees up front were not falling all over the place. When the dancing got too much, people were seen lazing about on the lawns or benches around the main stage. But at any given point of time, there were at least two groups of people dancing in front of the console, regardless of whether the DJ was playing trance, deep house or electro swing! Music aside, the visuals accompanying each set were also impressively timed.
Unfortunately for the organisers, a sudden shower on day one dampened the fun for the DJs, who were worried about their equipment getting wet. “It was really hard because it started raining when I began playing. So out of the hour-long set I had to play, half of it went into protecting the gear. And when you have to focus on something other than the music, you sometimes lose the flow and rebuild from the start. Despite that, it was really fun performing here and I loved the Indian crowd,” said Nicolas Scaravilli, better known by his moniker Kid Crème. But for the crowd, the rain only meant a short-lived rain dance. “Some of the DJs like Kid Crème and Stefano took me back to the 90s. There needed to be more activities or another stage perhaps because it got dull in parts. But the vibe and sound were awesome,” said Jerin, a festival-goer.
Despite the India-Pakistan match on day two, there was a large turnout and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Shanti P, who was seen dancing with a group of friends, said that it was the best weekend she had had in a while. “It’s a crazy line-up and some of the DJs who have been brought down are living legends! Even for those who aren’t into EDM, it’s a good introduction to the different sub-genres that they might enjoy,” she said.
