Addressing a news conference here, the regional secretary of ABVP K Vasantha Kumar said the VC convened a meeting with the officer bearers of the Parishat on Aug 18 and assured that the issue will be discussed again in the next Syndicate meeting scheduled in the month end.

Campaign

It shall be recalled that after the Save University Forum, the ABVP has also launched a campaign in a big way seeking criminal action against the former VC for violating the rules.

He also claimed that the Vice-Chancellor also assured to publicise the names of those involved in the markscard racket in the University.

Already, the University has initiated criminal action against the accused in the case, the VC reportedly told parishat delegation.

Schemes

The ABVP members said they appealed to the VC to cancel all the self-financed schemes for the undergraduate and post graduate courses and bring them under the general Government fee structure.

And, University should allocate 60 per cent of seats for general category.

Prospectus

Also, the VC gave a patient hearing for the demand of the ABVP to stop charging for prospectus and application fee for every course a student applies for post graduation programmes.

Instead, only applications could be given separately with a single prospectus, he said adding that the VC Talawar responded positively to the demand and promised to bring into effect the system from the next academic year.

Traditional headgear

The ABVP welcomed the University decision to switch to traditional headgear from the Western hoods during the annual convocation of the University from this year.

VC Talawar was not available for comment on the assurance made to the ABVP delegation to review the Syndicate decision on the irregularities and the former VC Shashidhar Prasad.  They urged the University to introduce the choice-based credit system after holding an awareness workshop for the students.
