'109 villages affected by wild elephants'

Speaking at the review meeting of District-in-Charge Secretary Jayaramaraje Urs at Old Fort premises, he said in the last 20 years, 51 lives have been lost in the wild elephant menace. About 73 elephants have died.

Owing to the shortage of food in forest, the wild elephants are attacking the estates.
The PCCF has given permission to capture 2 rogue elephants in the district. About 150 km long solar fences have been constructed in the district. There is a proposal to have 550 km long solar fence in the district. A sum of Rs 50 lakh had been released to pay compensation for the loss of crops. The department is planning to sell or donate the captured rogue elephants to other states.
