Newly married couple visit the temple

The fair will be held every year on the day of Gauri festival. The newly married couple visit the temple and offer bagina to the pond. The temple has become a tourist spot in the recent years.

The Honnammana kere is considered as one of the largest ponds in Kodagu. Swarna Gauri festival holds a special place for the villagers. The newly married couple and women from outside the district also visit the temple on the day of Gauri Ganesha festival. The bagina will include cereals, fruits, karimani, bangles and kumkum kept on a bamboo.

It is belived that offering bagina will bring prosperity to the newly married couple. Special pooja is offered to the Honnamma Devi.

A hillock which is situated near the temple is also a tourist spot to enjoy the beauty of the nature. There is ‘Bangarada kallu’ situated on the banks of the pond. The tourism department has undertaken several development works in the region. Last year, steps were created to climb Gavibetta along with the reelings at the cost of Rs 30 lakh. A cave is situated on the top of the hill. Water is available in the cave to quench the thirst of the tourists who visit the spot. Motor boat facility is being provided in the pond for the Honnamma jathrotsava.
