The deceased, Divya Basavaraj, was a native of Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumkur district, the police said.

Divya was staying alone in a two bedroom house, which had been locked for the last three days. The owner of the house grew suspicious as a foul smell started emanating. He alerted the police, who rushed to the house and broke open the door.

The body of the woman was found lying on the floor in the living room, with wounds on the head. Police have recovered liquor bottles, cigarette butts and condom packs from the house.

Interestingly, they say that Divya did not possess any modern furniture, gadgets, electronic goods - there was nothing in the house but a bag!

It is suspected that Divya was attacked by someone in an inebriated condition about three days ago. The identity of the culprit, and the weapons used to commit the murder are yet to be ascertained.

Divya had no relatives in the City; her parents live in Chikkanayakanahalli. She had told the owner that she was running a beauty parlour in the City. It is not yet known if this is true.

Neighbours told Deccan Herald that the house was always locked. “A few men would visit the house once a while, and Divya rarely came out of the house. Most people in the area were unaware about her background or profession,” they said.

Police are confident of cracking the case, as they have zeroed in on the last person who visited her on Friday night.
