If you thought that you were in a modern jewellery show room in a big city, you would be wrong completely.

All the jewellery items had been stolen from different parts of the country from big show rooms by a gang allegedly led by a girl who was a Delhi University student. The Ghaziabad police had recently nabbed some members of the gang, including its leader Mansi Bhatt, a resident of Uttarakhand, and had recovered jewellery worth Rs 2.5 crore.

The jewellery items were kept at the Indira Puram police station in Ghaziabad town near New Delhi and were put on display on Sunday to enable their rightful owners to identify them. “We had been receiving calls from the common people, who claimed that jewellery items had been stolen from their houses as well....they expressed their desire to see the recovered jewellery to ascertain if the missing jewelleries were amongst them,” Ghaziabad police chief Raghubir Lal said.

The collection was on display under the watchful eyes of the security personnel on Sunday. “A large number of local people flocked the police station,” police officials said.

“Not many, however, were able to find their lost possessions,” they added. Lal said that Mansi and her gang members had stolen a large number of jewellery and other items including cameras and cash from different show rooms in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Meerut and other parts of the country.
