14 file papers to contest for MLC election

While 11 persons filed their nomination papers to Mysuru Regional Commissioner P Hemalatha, also Election Officer, to contest in the biennial elections from the South-West Teachers constituency to the Legislative Council, three persons filed their papers from the Graduates constituency. The elections are scheduled for June 8.

While S L Bojegowda, Manjunath Kumar and B Niranjanamurthy filed papers from the JD(S), the Congress and the BJP respectively, the remaining nine persons filed papers as Independent candidates from the Teachers constituency.

Similarly, Captain Ganesh Karnik filed his papers on a BJP ticket to contest from the Graduates constituency and S P Dinesh is Congress candidate. B K Manjunatha filed papers as an Independent candidate.

With the nominations filed on Monday, 16 people are in the fray from both South-West Teachers and Graduates constituencies.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had issued a notification on May 15, stating that the last date to file nomination is Tuesday. The EC will scrutinise the nomination papers on May 23 and the candidates can withdraw before May 25. The vote counting will be held on June 12.
