Biggies file papers on penultimate day

Political heavyweights of the region Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa, Education Minister Tanveer Sait, MLAs M K Somashekar and Sa Ra Mahesh and ex-UoM VC K S Rangappa among others filed their nomination papers on the penultimate day of filing of nomination papers on Monday.

Some believe that Tuesday is not auspicious. Thus many candidates have filed the papers on Monday. While Mahadevappa filed the papers at T Narasipur, Sa Ra Mahesh, joined by JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy, party leaders A H Vishwanath and G T Devegowda, filed the papers at K R Nagar taluk office.

Tanveer Sait of the Congress submitted the papers to contest from Narasimharaja (NR) Assembly segment, at Chamundi Vihar stadium, while Somashekar of the Congress from Krishnaraja Assembly segment and JD(S) candidate for Chamaraja K S Rangappa submitted their nominations at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) office. The supporters of all the candidates took out processions on the main streets of the city and the respective towns.

Mahesh offered puja at Adishakti Topammanavar temple along with the supporters. In T Narasipur, seven candidates including, Mahadevappa and four independent candidates, filed the papers.

Earlier, Mahadevappa offered puja in a few temples and took out a roadshow. Film actor Rishika Singh and her brother Aditya, also an actor, accompanied Mahadevappa. His son Sunil Bose was present.

JD(S) rebel K Harish Gowda filed the papers as an independent against Rangappa, Corporator Satish (Sandish Swamy) filed his papers on a BJP ticket to contest from NR segment, Gopal Rao and L Nagendra of the BJP filed the papers to contest from Chaundeshwari and Chamaraja Assembly segments respectively.

In all, 52 candidates from 10 Assembly segments, except Hunsur, filed the papers on Monday.
