A protest to urge the Central government to waive loans borrowed by farmers will be staged in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on June 18 and 19, KPCC kisan wing state president Sachin Meega said.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said that the coalition government in the state is preparing to waive off Rs 53,000 crore loan borrowed by farmers.

“Accordingly, the Centre should waive off Rs 1.14 lakh crore borrowed by farmers from nationalised banks,” he said.

He said the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana should be implemented effectively.

The yardstick for crop loss in a gram panchayat jurisdiction should not be considered.

Instead, compensation should be paid on the individual crop loss suffered by the farmers, he added.
Meega urged the Central government to implement Gorak Singh committee recommendations for the welfare of arecanut growers.

A special package for coffee growers should be announced and the Kalasa bandoori project should be implemented, he said.
