Gusty winds, incessant showers lash district

Incessant rain accompanied by gusty winds continued to lash across Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday.

An old building partially collapsed on Bhavanthi Street in Mangaluru. The two-wheelers that were parked beside the road in front of the building have been damaged.

Tree fall

In yet another incident, a huge tree fell on a house at Hosabettu in Surathkal and damaged the house. Another tree fell on the road near the RTO in Mangaluru and disrupted the movement of vehicles for some time. Later, the fire service personnel cleared the tree and facilitated the movement of vehicles.

The branches of a tree also fell on the road leading to Mangaluru Central Railway Station. A transformer at Pacchanady was damaged when a tree fell on it.

The winds also disrupted the power supply in different parts of Dakshina Kannada. The tree fell on an electricity pole at Kallagudde in Bantwal. The Mescom officials cleared the tree using a crane.

Inundation

The incidents of collapse of road, compound wall and water inundating arecanut gardens have been reported in Uppinangady.

The compound wall of a house collapsed on the neighbouring house at Periyadka Janata Colony. The walls of the house has been damaged. The concrete road leading to Nedchil Janata colony has collapsed. The agricultural land of Ramanna Gowda, Vishwanath and Sheenappa Gowda have been marooned in Balalu Padpu.

A house belonging to Sundar and Leelavathi was damaged when a tree fell on it near Kuthar.

The low-lying areas of Amblamogaru have been inundated. The movement of vehicles was disrupted as water entered an alternative road to Kuthar-Elyarpadavu. The asbestos sheets on the premises of Somanatheshwara Temple in Someshwara were damaged in the gusty wind.

Gusty winds

The gusty winds results in huge mishaps at Kilpadi and Padupanambur in Mulki hobli on Saturday morning. A house at Thodar Koraga Colony was damaged when a tree fell on it. The house belongs to Kookra Koraga.

A woman has suffered injuries when a coconut tree fell on the house, at Kilpadi. The house belongs to Kampara Mestri. The injured is Rathna. Following the damage to the house, social worker Rajesh Amin has given shelter to the inmates of the house.

The roof tiles of a house were damaged at Thokooru in Padupanambur.

Over 70 electricity poles have been damaged in the Ullal region.

Electricity poles were uprooted at Mogaveerapattana, Ullal Hoige, Vijayanagara, Moorukatte, Anandashrama School, near Someshwara Temple, Kotekar, Someshwara, Ucchila, Kinya, Madooru, Talapady, Bajangre, Kaneerthota, Belma, Barike, Gattikudru, Elyarpadavu.

Fiery sea

Sea erosion has intensified in Ullal, Mogaveerapattana, Someshwara and Ucchila. The waves lashing the barge that sank near Ullal last year caught the attention of onlookers.

The water-levels in the rivers Nethravathi, Phalguni and Kumaradhara have increased considerably following the rain. The water level of river Nethravathi stood at 3 metre in Bantwal; of Kumaradhara at 19 metre in Uppinangady.

In the last 24 hours, Belthangady received the highest of 82.3 mm rainfall, followed by Bantwal —75 mm, Sullia—71.3 mm, Mangaluru—70 mm and Puttur—61 mm rain.
