With just one day left for filing nomination papers, several candidates filed their papers in Madikeri and Virajpet constituencies on Monday for the Legislative Assembly election on May 12.

JD(S) candidate B A Jeevijaya filed his papers in Madikeri. He arrived in a procession and was accompanied by his son Sanjay Jeevijaya, the party leaders Rajarao, Suresh and
S M D’Silva.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “As per the direction of JD(S) state president
H D Kumaraswamy, I have been organising the party for the last one year. I am confident of winning the trust and blessings of the people.”

Napanda Muthappa has turned a rebel as the Congress has denied him ticket and he filed nomination papers as an Independent candidate.

He took out a procession from Coorg Club along with his followers.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “I have filed two sets of nomination papers separately as a Congress and an Independent candidate. Wait and watch to see who will remain in the fray as a Congress candidate.”

“I would not have filed the nomination papers if the Congress had given a B-form to Chandramouli. As the Congress issued a ticket to a weak candidate, I filed my papers. In fact, the party high command had decided to give me a ticket. But it was changed at the last minute. I have been asked not to contest as an Independent. Instead, I was offered the MLC seat and the post of DCC president, which I have denied.”

P S Yedoorappa of Piriyapatna and Bailamane Thimmaiah filed papers as Independent candidates from Madikeri.
