Woman attacked over allegations of selling liquor

Residents from Belvatti village in Belagavi taluk attacked a woman on Monday night alleging that she had been selling liquor illegally in the village. Police personnel who had been to the village to rescue the woman were also attacked in which two of them have suffered injuries.

Police said, residents alleging that Reshma Yallappa Ashtekar had been selling liquor in the village despite being warned attacked her at her residence in which she suffered injuries. Police on getting information of the incident rushed to the village, but residents pelted stones on them too in which Police Inspector Nityanand Patil and Constable Bhimshi Madar suffered injuries.

Ashtekar has been admitted in the District Hospital for treatment, while the police personnel with stone injuries have been admitted in a private hospital for treatment.

Ashtekar informed the police that villagers were making baseless allegations against her and she was not involved in selling of liquor.

Belagavi Rural police have registered a case.
