New Delhi: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday claimed that the BJP has filed two applications to get his wife Anita's name deleted from the New Delhi Assembly constituency ahead of Delhi Assembly elections.

His allegations came soon after AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal claimed that 5,692 applications, including 4,784 after December 15, were filed for deletion from electoral rolls and 7,876 applications, including 5,100 after December 15, for addition and majority of them were done by the BJP.

Addressing a press conference along with his wife, Singh said the attempt to delete Anita's name was part of BJP's attempt to teach him a lesson after he exposed the saffron party's attempt to target voters from 'Poorvanchal' consisting of eastern parts of UP and Bihar, who are settled in the capital.

The couple belong to eastern UP and Poorvanchalis form a substantial chunk of voters in the capital. Singh claimed that two applications seeking removal of his wife's name were filed on December 25 and 26 by a woman.

"The BJP is trying to teach me a lesson for raising in the Rajya Sabha the issue of names of Purvanchali voters being deleted from the voters list in Delhi," he said.

He said the BJP were saying that they were ensuring that Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, who infiltrated into the country, did not manage to vote.

"Do they mean to say that my wife is Rohingya? Is she Bangladeshi? She is from Jaunpur. If Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are infiltrating, who is responsible? What did the BJP at the Centre do in the past ten years?" he asked.

Separately, Kejriwal told a press conference that the BJP has exposed itself that they were going to lose the elections, as the BJP has accused the AAP of helping the illegal immigrants with documents.

He claimed that BJP has undertaken a large-scale voter addition and deletion exercise by the BJP in the New Delhi seat and it impacts 12% of the constituency's votes. The New Delhi seat has 1.06 lakh votes.

"Operation Lotus has now reached my constituency. They are attempting to manipulate the electoral rolls to change the election outcome. This kind of manipulation undermines democracy. We appeal to the Election Commission to continue its strict monitoring to prevent such malpractice," he alleged.
