Chris Hemsworth’s heartfelt Thor tribute fuels speculation of MCU Exit

Although it's now official that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as ‘Thor’ in Avengers: Doomsday, the actor has released a video called "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," which has sparked rumours that he could be nearing the end of his MCU journey.

On Wednesday, the star took to his YouTube channel to release a one-minute and fifty-six-second video that features a mix of clips, behind-the-scenes footage and interview moments from Chris Hemsworth’s time as the MCU’s ‘God of Thunder,’ including scenes from all four Thor films and ensemble entries like Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War and Endgame.

He also shared a message saying "Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!"

While his heartfelt note feels like he’s bidding goodbye to the iconic character, it’s also widely assumed that Hemsworth will now appear in Avengers: Secret Wars—unless, of course, the Mighty Asgardian is destined to join his ancestors in Valhalla during Doomsday.

Well, this is not the first time; in the past also, Hemsworth suggested that it might be time to kill off the character.

"I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I think it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know... am I at that stage? Who knows?"

Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars have recently faced major delays, with Doomsday now scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.

The Russo brothers are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, marking their first MCU projects since directing The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame.
