The trailer of actor Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming movie Thalaivi, which deals with the life of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, is out much to the delight of ‘Simran’ fans.

The video features her in a massy new avatar, which does justice to Amma’s larger-than-life image.

The trailer suggests that the movie will explore the mass leader’s contribution to the Tamil film industry while highlighting her rise in politics. It will also touch upon the relationship between Jaya and her mentor the iconic MGR.

Judging by the trailer, Thalaivi is likely to be a Kangana show all the way and may help her consolidate her standing in the industry. Her intense performance appears to be in the same zone as the one delivered by her in the period drama Manikarnika, which helped her bag her fourth National Award.

The biggie has been directed by AL Vijay and is the second Hindi movie of his career.

He had previously wielded the microphone for the Prabhudeva-starrer Tutak Tutak Tutiya, which released in 2016. The director’s magnum opus has a star-studded cast that includes Arvind Swami and Prakash Raj, who play MGR and Karunanidhi. Bengali star Jisshu was offered a role in the film but did not take it up due to his busy schedule. The Roja hero’s scenes with Kangana are likely to be a highlight of the movie. Arvind has been doing good work of late and impressed fans with his performances in Thani Oruvan, Dhruva and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. It remains to be seen whether Thalaivi helps him score another hit.

The biggie is slated to hit the theatres in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on April 23.

Kangana, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front and will soon be seen in the actioner Dhaakad, which features her in a new avatar. The star also has the eagerly-awaited movie Tejas in her kitty
