'Grand alliance will come to power after LS polls'

Last Updated 31 December 2018, 11:11 IST

The grand alliance (Mahagatbandhan) will come to power after the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Congress will win more than 200 seats, said former union minister and MP M Veerappa Moily.

Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru on Monday, he said, “The BJP has become weak after the recently held five state assembly elections. Further, Shiv Sena and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party have moved away from the NDA. The opposition parties are becoming strong. The grand alliance is being supported by the SP and BSP. The leadership of Rahul Gandhi is growing stronger each day”.

Moily said, “The Congress-JD(S) alliance will contest the Lok Sabha elections in the state. The BJP is becoming weak in the state. It won’t be a surprise if the BJP wins only three or four seats,” he remarked.

“People no longer believe in the false promises of the BJP. People are recognising the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. The Grand Alliance will accept the candidature of Rahul Gandhi for the post of Prime Minister if the Congress wins more than 200 seats. The prime ministerial candidate will not be announced now. Let the elections get over,” he said.

Stating that there was no chaos or confusion in the Congress in Karnataka after the cabinet expansion, Moily said that the BJP is waiting for such an opportunity. On the allegation that aspirants from North Karnataka were not represented in the state cabinet, Moily said, “It is not possible to offer ministerial berth to all the 60 MLAs. Aspirants should not lose patience”.

Moily reiterated that he would contest from Chikkaballapur in the Lok Sabha election for the third time. He clarified that he was not an aspirant for the Mangaluru seat.
