The National Green Tribunal has directed a committee set up by it to implement its order banning dumping of debris on the banks of Yamuna, to submit a proposal for the development of the river’s banks.

A bench headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar has given the panel time till the next date of hearing on April 23 to present the proposal before it. “We direct the committee constituted under order of this tribunal of January 31, 2013, shall submit its proposal before the tribunal before the next date of hearing as to how and in what manner the banks of river Yamuna can be developed rather than making it mere garbage dumping site,” the bench, also comprising judicial member Justice P Jyothimani, said.

The panel headed by the secretary, MoEF, and including the vice chairman of DDA and secretary of department of irrigation of Uttar Pradesh, has been directed by the NGT to ensure that a complete proposal for development and beautification of the river’s banks is finalised in its next meeting.
