Heavy rain lashes most parts of state

Belagavi city and surrounding villages received heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunder for about one hour on Thursday evening.

The downpour brought the temperature level down and a pleasant environment prevailed. The heavy rain reduced visibility and affected the movement of vehicles on the main roads. Vegetable and fruit vendors faced difficulties in securing their products from the sudden downpour.

The rainwater filled several areas, including the Fort Road. Overflowing of drains was a common scene.

Some villages in Madadakere hobli in Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga district heavy rain with lightning and thunder.

The rain lashed Janakallu, Kanthapura, Goolihatti, Doddaghatta, Mallapura and other villages for about half an hour from 4.20 pm. The rainwater gushed into coconut, areca nut, mango and banana plantations. Some candidates and their supporters campaigned even during the rain as Thursday was the last day for public campaigning.

In Davangere district, several villagers in Channagiri taluk received rain. Strong wind blew roofs and sheets of some houses before the rain. Channagiri town received a rainfall of 3 cm. Garaga, Honnebagi, Gullehalli, Rajagondanahalli, Diggenahalli, Malligere, Devarahalli, Hireuada Tanda and other villages in the taluk have received rain. The rain has brought respite from heat and smile is back on farmers' lips. The agriculture activities are expecrted to increase after the rain.

Gadag town, Nargund, Naregal and other areas also received heavy rain.

At Yallapur town in Uttara Kannada district, a tree fell on a house causing a damage of over Rs 1 lakh to Manjunath Nayka, the house owner.

Moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by lightning, thunder and strong wind, lashed several parts of Shivamogga district on Thursday.

Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Sagar, Thirthahalli, Hosanagar, Shikaripura received a good spell of rains in the evening. The rain that started around 6.15 pm in Shivamogga lasted for more than 40 minutes and it rained again. Several roads and low-lying areas in Shivamogga city were waterlogged.

Heavy rain lashed Dharwad and Hubballi on Thursday evening for more than one hour.

Rain accompanied by lighting and gusty winds battered Dharwad from 7 to 8 pm.

In Hubballi, the rain affected normal life for some time and traffic came to stand still on certain roads and rainwater gushed into houses in low laying areas at several places.
