Getting a rousing welcome from family and friends in the capital Monday, Vajpai said: “One must be mentally prepared when on the mountains, since it gets a bit scary when you see dead bodies there. At times the bodies are in distorted shapes, which can be very disturbing.”

The bodies are mostly of other mountaineers or their accompanying Sherpas or porters who succumbed to inclement weather on the world's tallest peak.

The expedition may have been challenging for the student of the Ryan International school, but in the end these words sum up his experience: “It was a fun trip.”

He started his journey from Delhi March 25 and achieved success May 22.
Vajpai was part of a 12-member expedition that left for the 8,848 metre Mt Everest.
Vajpai's mother, thrilled at her son's feat said: “When I heard the news, I was laughing and crying at the same time. Arjun is a very determined boy. He believes in himself and this is why he could achieve this success.”
