New Delhi: After imposing a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from India, United States President Donald Trump on Thursday called the South Asian nation’s economy ‘dead’ and even announced a trade deal with its neighbour and arch-rival Pakistan.

Trump also announced that the US would help develop “massive oil reserves” in Pakistan, which, according to him, might someday even sell hydrocarbons to India.
.'They can take their dead economies down together': US President Donald Trump slams India-Russia ties.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” the US president posted on Truth Social on Thursday. “We have done very little business with India; their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way.”
.
Earlier, while announcing a 25 per cent tariff on all goods exported by India to the US, Trump had also slammed New Delhi for buying defence hardware and energy from Russia, despite the former Soviet Union nation’s special military operations in Ukraine.

He hit out at President Vladimir Putin’s close aide, Dimitry Medvedev, for suggesting that each new ultimatum from Washington, DC, for Moscow to end the conflict with Ukraine was a step towards a war between Russia and the US.

“And, tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” Trump wrote in the same post on Truth Social, where he called the Indian and Russian economies dead.
.
Trump’s tirade against New Delhi started a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha that no foreign leader had asked India to halt its military offensive against Pakistan on May 10, dismissing once again the US president’s claim that he had brokered a ceasefire between the two South Asian nations, using the threat of suspending trade with both.

Trump, however, did not relent and continued to claim credit for the truce between the two South Asian nations.
