Agency INCOIS denies any threat to Indian coast after earthquake & tsunami warning across Pacific

INCOIS had also recorded another earthquake (6.6 magnitude) off the Nicobar Islands in the Indian region at a depth of 42 km at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: While an 8.7-magnitude earthquake that struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula had triggered Tsunami advisories across the Pacific, including parts of Japan, the US and other Pacific islands, Hyderabad based INCOIS ruled out any threat to India.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), country's Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC) in Hyderabad has recorded deep sea earthquake in the early hours of Wednesday with 8.7 magnitude on richtber scale and said there is no threat whatsoever to the Indian coastlines.

INCOIS had also recorded another earthquake (6.6 magnitude) off the Nicobar Island in the south-west Pacific Ocean between New Zealand and Antarctica region at a depth of 10 metres and magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter Scale.

“Tsunami Warning Centre, @ESSO_INCOIS detected an #earthquake of M 8.7 on 30 July 2025 at 04:54 IST (29 July 2025 at 23:24 UTC) @ Off East Coast of Kamchatka (Location: 52.57 N, 160.08 E). NO TSUNAMI THREAT to India and Indian Ocean in connection with this earthquake,” said Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Tsunami Warning Advisory Service in a social media post.
