<p> Though the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party scored over the ruling Congress by announcing 176 candidates at a single stroke, the party is now facing rebellion. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Some disgruntled leaders have threatened to contest as independents, while a few others embraced a third front led by the National People’s Party (NPP) of Kirorilal Meena. <br /><br />Ashok Lahoti of the BJP, a former Yuva Morcha state president, announced that he would contest as an independent after being denied ticket. He alleged that despite working hard to strengthen the party’s base for the last five years, the BJP decided to field an “outsider.”<br /><br />The BJP has fielded former party president Arun Chaturvedi from Civil Lines. Chaturvedi is from Bharatpur. <br /><br />Sitting BJP MLAs Sukhram Koli (from Basedi) and Anil Jain (Khanpur), who were also denied tickets, have joined the National People's Party. <br /><br />It is expected that Koli and Jain would contest on NPP tickets. <br /><br />Jain had alleged that BJP president Vasundhara Raje’s son Dushyant Singh played a role in denying him ticket. Koli criticised the BJP for fielding an “outside candidate” from Basedi and alleged corruption in allotment of tickets. <br /><br />The BJP has fielded Rani Koli this year. Former BJP minister Narendra Kanwar has also joined the NPP. She was a minister in the Bhairon Singh Shekhawat government and contested the 2008 Assembly election from Sawai Madhopur. <br /><br />Kanwar said she had served the BJP for 15 years, but the party has now become “personality centric.” Another former BJP MLA, Snehlata Arya, also joined the NPP.<br />Three sitting BJP MLAs have joined Meena in the past two days. On Wednesday, Kathumar MLA Babulal Bairwa joined the NPP, which immediately declared him its candidate from Kathumar. <br /><br />Meena said: “We are expecting leaders from the Congress after the party announces the next list.” <br /><br />The party has announced only 105 candidates and is expected to announce 95 more by Saturday. Last date for filing nomination is November 12.<br /><br />Some BJP leaders were optimistic about pacifying the rebels. “It is a reaction at the heat of the moment. The party leaders will fall in line and work for the party’s official candidates,” said Opposition leader Gulab Chand Kataria. <br /><br />The Congress high command has given the responsibility of keeping the rebels under check to top state leaders like Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Chandrabhan and All India Congress Committee general secretary C P Joshi. </p>
