BJP leader Anupam Hazra, who threatened to give Mamata Banerjee 'Covid hug' tests positive for infection

Last Updated 02 October 2020, 12:35 IST

In a rather bizarre coincidence BJP leader Anupam Hazra who earlier threatened to hug West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee if he contracted Covid-19 tested positive for the disease. Hazra on Friday said in a Facebook post that he was “Covid-19 positive.”

According to sources in the Health Department, the BJP leader was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata during the day. They also said that Hazra’s condition was stable.

For the last few days Hazra, who recently became BJP national secretary, took part in several BJP rallies and came into contact with scores of people. One such rally was held at Baruipur in South 24 Paraganas district where several district-level BJP leaders were present.

BJP sources said that was the reason why Hazra got his samples tested and the report was positive. However, BJP leadership is yet to make any announcement whether those leaders and workers will go into quarantine.

Recently Hazra launched a tirade against the Chief Minister saying that BJP workers were fighting a far more dangerous adversary than Covid-19 as they were battling against Mamata Banerjee.

“I have decided that if I get infected by Covid-19 I will hug Mamata Banerjee,” said Hazra. He also accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of treating the bodies of Covid-19 patients in a pathetic manner adding that sometimes they were even burnt with kerosene.

TMC had lodged a police complaint against Hazra following his remark.
