The Class X and XII students of CBSE schools, who are scheduled to participate in an international sporting event during their board examinations next year, need not worry.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct a special board examination for such students from 2019, provided the sporting event in which they are scheduled to participate, is recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
“It has been decided to make this a policy decision and extend such facilitation hereon to all such students whose CBSE board examinations clash with their participation in any international sports event that is recognised by the SAI and the student participates as a representative of India,” the controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said.
The board has conveyed its decision to all the schools affiliated to it, requesting them that such cases be brought to the notice of the respective regional offices of the CBSE by January 31, 2019.
“For such students, their examination will be conducted at a later stage, at a date mutually convenient to the student and the board, however, before declaration of the board results,” Bhardwaj added.
To avail the relaxation, such students will have to make a request in writing to the CBSE through their schools along with the recommendations from the SAI in a prescribed format, informing about their participation in international sporting event clashing with the date of their board examination or being held close to the date of their examination.
“Schools have been requested to bring this information to the notice of their students who are actively participating in competitive sports and are likely to participate at an international sports event so that they can be benefited,” the CBSE official said.
The CBSE is scheduled to hold board examinations for Class X students from February 21, 2019 and for Class XII from February 15, 2019. While the Class X board examinations will conclude on March 29, 2019, Class XII board examinations will be over on April 3.
The board is expected to declare the results of the two board examinations by the first week of June.
