A civilian was injured when militants attacked a vehicle carrying ITBP personnel on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the militants fired upon two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) vehicles at around 5:30 am on the national highway near Qazigund, but hit a car behind them in which a civilian, who works with a construction company in Banihal, was injured.

Reports said immediately after the attack the army launched a search operation to nab the militants.

Meanwhile, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in city center Lal Chowk here on Saturday afternoon after inputs about the "presence of militants in the area." However, later the operation was called off without any arrests.
