Despite suffering two gunshot wounds, one in the chest and another in his arm, victim Ram Kripal Mahto drove his two-wheeler seven kilometres to drop his daughter at the JK High School, where she had to appear for her intermediate examination.
According to police sources, Ram Kripal, a former Mukhiya and local RJD leader, was intercepted by six armed criminals when he was riding along with his daughter. The criminals first tried to tie him up with a rope, but when Ram Kripal resisted, they fired at him twice.
On hearing his daughter’s screams, local people gathered. Fearing trouble, the miscreants fled. As blood was oozing out of his body, Ram Kripal’s daughter insisted he should visit the nearby hospital first.
“I am okay. Don’t worry about me. I will first drop you at the examination centre and then get medical treatment. I don’t want this incident to ruin one year for you,” said Ram Kripal, as he sped towards the examination centre in a critical state.
Once the worried daughter, who had to appear for her English paper, entered the school campus, other guardians helped Ram Kripal reach a private nursing home where the doctors have declared him to be in a critical state.
“Once he is stable, we will record his statement. The incident seems to be a fallout of old enmity,” said Begusarai SP, Awakash Kumar.
