India Political Highlights: BJP demands lie detector test for Kejriwal, Jain amid Sukesh's claims of bribing AAP

BJP MP Saumitra Khan on Tuesday urged all opposition parties, including the Congress and the Left Front, to join hands with the saffron camp to defeat the Trinamool Congress in the panchayat polls due next year.

The Congress and the Left Front, however, dismissed Khan’s proposal by terming the BJP and the TMC as “two sides of the same coin”. (PTI)

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath on Tuesday said the aim of Rahul Gandhi's ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra was to unite the country and there was no pressure on party workers to participate in the cross-country foot-march, whose route, he maintained has not been decided on the basis of the organisation's political strength or weakness.

The 3,570-km-long yatra, which began on September 7 from Kanniyakumari (Tamil Nadu) and will culminate in Srinagar early next year, is not merely a political event and its broader aim was to protect India's cultural diversity and the Constitution, he said. (PTI)

. The BJP on Tuesday staged a protest outside the AAP office here and demanded a lie detector test for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after suspected conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar claimed that he was forced to bribe the party.

In a series of letters, Chandrashekhar has alleged that he paid money to Delhi minister Satyender Jain and other AAP leaders for protection in jail and a Rajya Sabha ticket from the party. (PTI)

. The national capital has turned into a "dumping yard" in the last 15 years of BJP's tenure in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, AAP leader Atishi said on Tuesday as her party started the 'Kude Par Jansamvad' campaign ahead of the civic body polls.

In a public meeting in Kalkaji, she said the corporation elections are not about political parties, but about concerns of people and whether their localities are kept clean. (PTI)

. Around 80 per cent of 43,595 voters exercised their franchise in the Deori autonomous council elections in Assam on Tuesday, an official statement said.

The overall tentative turnout was 79.99 per cent as voters of 22 constituencies spread across six districts and four sub-divisions of some other districts turned up at 93 polling stations. (PTI)

. In a jolt to the opposition Congress ahead of the Assembly polls in Gujarat, senior MLA Mohansinh Rathva on Tuesday resigned as a party member and legislator and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rathva, 78, sent his resignation letter to state Congress chief Jagdish Thakor. (PTI)
