INS Sahyadri visits Fiji

To further strengthen bilateral relations with Fiji, an Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri entered the Port of Suva on Monday morning for a goodwill visit.

According to a press release by the Eastern Naval Command, INS Sahyadri enroute to India is visiting the Republic of Fiji after participating in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC), the biggest international maritime warfare exercise at Hawaii.

During the visit, the ship's personnel will interact with their Fiji counterparts and the ship will have an open day for general public on August 14.

A medical camp will be organized in collaboration with the Fijian government.

Doctors from India and Fiji will together conduct free health-screening on August 15, from 10 am to 14.30 pm (Fiji time) at Ratu Sukuna Park, Suva, where the bands of the Indian Navy and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) will perform jointly.

Officers from INS Sahyadri, RFMF and Indian High Commission will also be participating in mangrove and sandalwood planting on August 14.

The ship will celebrate the 72nd Independence Day of India in the Port of Suva August 15.

INS Sahyadri (F49) is the third and latest ship among the Shivalik class of indigenously built Stealth Frigates and forms a part of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy.

INS Sahyadri draws its name from the beautiful, age-defying Western Ghats (also known as Sahyadri ranges) stretching across 1,600 km along India's western coast.
