A foreign militant affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit was killed in a pre-dawn gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.

The slain militant was identified as Kamran Bhai alias Hanees, who according to the police was active in Kulgam-Shopian area.

“One FT (Foreign Terrorist) of JeM #terror outfit killed, identified as Kamran Bhai @ Hanees who was active in #Kulgam-#Shopian area. Search is still going on: ADGP Kashmir (sic),” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

This year 42 foreign militants have been killed in various encounters with the security forces in Kashmir compared to 19 such killings in the whole of 2021.

“The increase in killing of foreign militants clearly reveals that local recruitment into the militancy has gone down forcing Pakistan spy agency ISI to push more foreigners to keep the terrorism alive in Kashmir,” a senior police officer said.
