<p>Justice Balakrishnan is tipped to be the next chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission which is lying vacant for the past one year.<br /><br />Sixty-two-year-old Kapadia’s warrant of appointment, signed by President Pratibha Patil, has been sent to the Supreme Court registry, official sources said. <br />Justice Kapadia will be Chief Justice of India for about two years and four months.<br />Born on September 29, 1947, Kapadia enrolled as an advocate in September 1974. Kapadia was appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court in October 1991. He was elevated as a permanent judge in March 1993.<br /><br />Other changes<br />Justice Mishra, CJ of Jharkhand High Court, Justice H L Gokhale, CJ of Madras HC, and Justice A R Dave, CJ of Bombay HC on Friday took oath as judges of the Supreme Court.<br /><br />With the appointment of these three judges, the strength of the Supreme Court has gone up to 30 out of the sanctioned strength of 31.<br />Justice Mishra is the fourth woman judge to be elevated to the Supreme Court after Justices Fatima Beevi, Sujata Manohar and Ruma Pal.<br /><br />Firm on Dinakaran<br />Meanwhile, the Supreme Court collegium has stuck to its recommendation to shift Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran as Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court. Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice J S Khehar will replace Justice Dinakaran in the Karnataka High Court. <br /><br />Patna High Court Chief Justice Deepak Misra is being transferred to the Delhi High Court. Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Mohit S Shah has been transferred to the Bombay High Court, in the place of Justice A R Dave, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court. <br /><br />Justice J N Patel, senior most judge of the Bombay High Court, is being appointed Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, according to a Supreme Court source. <br />Sikkim High Court Chief Justice Barin Ghosh has been shifted to the Uttarakhand High Court. Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Madan B Lokur, who has been earlier transferred to the Karnataka High Court as acting Chief Justice, has been shifted to the Assam High Court as its Chief Justice.<br />DH News Service</p>
