<p>A team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Saidul Adavat, raided an illegal sand extraction unit in the Netravathi backwaters at Pudu village and seized 35 loads of sand.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The raid was conducted based on a tip-off about a group illegally extracting sand from the riverbed and selling it at higher price. Those involved in the illegal extraction of sand fled from the scene when the police arrived.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The police seized three tipper lorries worth Rs 24 lakh, two earth movers worth Rs 1.35 crore, a filtering unit worth Rs 80,000, 35 loads of sand worth Rs 1.10 lakh, a power generator and other things. The value of the total seized articles is over Rs 1.65<br />crore.</p>.<p class="bodytext">All the seized articles have been handed over to Mines and Geology Department officials for further investigation.</p>
