<p>Mangaluru: Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa said 81 cases had been disposed of during the two-day public grievances meeting held in the city.</p><p>On the first day, 50 out of the total 93 cases received were disposed of. On Tuesday, a total of 66 complaints were received and 31 of them were disposed of.</p><p>"During my visit to a hostel in Kodialbail, students complained about the lack of a reading space. On my orders, the warden arranged a room for reading. Following orders, the DHO has arranged an ambulance for the PHC."</p><p>Hospitals, hostels and government offices will be asked to display the contact number of the Lokayukta SP and the Bengaluru Lokayukta office, he said.</p><p>To a query, he said the Lokayukta Act needed amendments. "I have already written to the government on the issue." </p><p>On 'schemes' collecting money by offering flats, cars and other gifts during monthly lucky draws, the Upa Lokayukta said the Mangaluru police commissioner had promised to register a case and take action against such illegal lottery operators.</p><p>On water logging and artificial floods during rains in Kottara Chowki, the Upa Lokayukta promised to look into the complaint.</p><p><strong>Suo Motu case </strong></p><p>Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa, who visited the waste dumping yard in Pacchanady, said a suo motu case would be registered. "About nine lakh tonnes of legacy waste is dumped at the site and only one lakh tonne has been cleared so far. I have asked the officials to clear it at the earliest, as legacy waste in the area will have an impact on the groundwater table, and the vegetables grown in the surrounding areas."</p><p>He said a suo motu case would be also registered against the Haleyangadi GP.</p>
