<p>The Dakshina Kannada district unit of Mahila Congress staged a protest in front of the DC’s office in Mangaluru on Monday, condemning the anti-people policy of the BJP-led Union government.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The State Mahila Congress president Lakshmi Hebbalkar, who addressed the gathering, said that the women’s Congress would stage protest in all districts, to create awareness about the anti-people policies followed by the BJP-led government. “The campaign has been initiated in Dakshina Kannada, as the district is known for its communal clashes and incidents of moral policing,” she stressed.<br /><br />She said that the protest was aimed at exposing the false promises of the BJP government.<br /><br /> “The Union government, led by Narendra Modi, is engaged in publicity through advertisements. No new programme has been implemented since the party came to power. Instead, the Prime Minister is engaged in foreign tours. <br /><br />In spite of the entire Karnataka State reeling under drought, the Centre has released a meagre amount of funds to tackle the situation. In spite of Karnataka having 17 BJP MPs, the representatives have failed to prevail upon the Centre to release additional funds to tackle drought in the State,” she said.<br /><br />She also alleged that the Centre is following step motherly attitude towards the State government. <br /><br />Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader, who participated in the protest, concurred that the Union government had failed to release additional funds for the construction of classrooms in schools too. “There is a need to organise protests at booth-level to create awareness about the false promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the elections,” said the minister.<br /><br />‘Govt policies fail’<br />MLC Ivan D’Souza said that the BJP had promised to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks within 100 days of coming to power. <br /><br />“The promise, however, has remained only on paper. The Jan Dhan Yojana of the Union government is a failure. Under Swaccha Bharath Mission, the government has spent Rs 150 crore for publicity. However, the impact of the mission is not seen in the country,” complained the legislator.<br /><br />“When Karnataka government sought Rs 3,500 crore to tackle drought situation, the Union government released a meagre amount to the State. The prices of essential commodities had gone up in the last few months since the BJP had assumed office,” he added.<br /><br />Legislator Shakunthala Shetty and District Mahila Congress President Mamatha Gatti were present at the protest.<br /></p>
