Belagavi: Three held for assaulting, abusing Dalit youth

Belagavi: Three persons accused of abusing a Dalit youth and beating him up after tying to a tree at Godachi village in Ramdurg taluk have been arrested by Katkol police. Video of the incident which took place on August 5 went viral on social media on Monday.

The victim Iranna Vithal Naikar, a resident of Godachi village, was taken on bike on the pretext of some work by main accused Iranna Sangappa Pakanatti and Basangouda Ningangouda Patil to the farm house of Ramesh Pakanatti.

Naikar was forced to call another Laxman Mallappa Chippalakatti to the farmhouse. Iaranna and Basangouda along with other accused Pradeep Iranna Pakanatti, Mahantesh Laxman Pakanatti, Sachin Danappa Pakanatti, Ningraj Irappa Pakanatti and Sangappa Ningappa Pakanatti then abused them and made castiest remarks for not allowing road from their agriculture lands.

Iranna Naikar and Mallappa Chippalakatti were beaten up with pipes, wires and sticks. They later tied Iranna to a tree and again assaulted him, and made a video of the act.

Iranna Naikar filed a complaint in this regard with the police on August 9. Based on the complaint, accused Iranna Sangappa Pakanatti, Mahantesh Laxman Pakanatti and Sachin Danappa Pakanatti were arrested.
