240 health inspectors, 700 volunteers deployed for dengue control

Bengaluru: Nearly 240 health inspectors and 700 volunteers have been appointed in Bengaluru to prevent the spread of dengue, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Wednesday.

Speaking after launching the 'Check, Clean, Cover' campaign to mark National Dengue Day, in collaboration with the BBMP, he noted that nearly 50% of Karnataka’s dengue cases are being reported from Bengaluru, and urged residents to take precautions.

He said steps are being taken to eliminate dengue-carrying mosquitoes from stagnant water and public spaces. “Dengue can be controlled only when people prioritise cleanliness and take precautions,” he said.

Rao stressed the need to make Bengaluru a dengue-free city, calling on volunteers, ASHA workers, health staff and residents to work together.

Earlier, he went door-to-door in Kumbaragundi Layout, Chickpet, raising public awareness about preventive measures. He pointed out that clean water units such as tanks, household containers, old tyres and coconut shells are common breeding grounds for dengue mosquito larvae.
