A green corridor was created from Mysuru to Bengaluru on Saturday morning to facilitate organ donation.
A signal-free zone was created between JSS Hospital, Mysuru and Columbia Asia Hospital, Yeshwantpur in the City. According to officials with the Zonal Co-ordination Committee of Karnataka for Organ Transplantation, liver, kidneys and cornea of a 38-year-old brain dead patient were harvested.
While the donor’s cornea would be transplanted to a recipient at Mysuru, his liver would be transplanted to a recipient at Columbia Asia. Doctors are yet to find a match for the kidneys.
The donor from Mysuru, was declared brain dead after an accident. Dr Kanchan Sanyal, chief of medical services, Columbia Asia, said that it was at about 2.30 pm on Friday that they were alerted about a potential donor. The recipient is a 50-year-old male.
A senior police officer said, “The ambulance left Mysuru at 9.30 am and reached Nice Road at 11.03 am. From there, the ambulance reached the hospital, a distance of 12 km in 12 minutes.”
