It’s that time of the year again when cultural activities take centrestage in all colleges. Students of St Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC) recently held their annual cultural fest, Dhwani 2012. The word, that literally means music, has a history of over 14 years in the institution.

.
“This is an amalgamation of different cultural events like dance, music and art, proving to be platforms for the students to express themselves,” said Sharath, the cultural co-ordinator.

Every year, the fest comes up with a unique theme. This year, the theme was ‘Born From a Boom Box’.

The theme was a tribute to the raw energy and the passion for art forms.

As part of the decorations, there was a huge boom box kept inside the campus and it was this symbol that served as a metonym for the origin of the music culture.

The fest saw a bit of everything –– be it the concerts that kept the students on their feet or the contests that brought out the best competitive spirit in everyone.

The highlight of the three-day festival was the Western dance performance.

“The teams actually performed in UV lights, which looked really cool,” said Tia, a student.

There was also an ethnic fashion parade. No fest in SJCC ends without a street dance.

Called the ‘Step Up’, the event saw everyone including the audience shake a leg or two to the peppy music.

Music, being the main highlight of the fest, the final day saw a rock show with bands like ‘Live Banned’, ‘Clown With A Frown’, ‘Solder’ and several others take the stage.

The participation from other colleges were overwhelming with over 50 colleges participating this year.

However, it was Kristu Jayanti College, which stood out among the rest by bagging the overall trophy and they were crowned as the winners of Dhwani 2012.
