Affordable food from the North

If authentic North Indian food is what one’s craving for, ‘Ruchi Kitchen Family Restaurant’ is the place worth trying. Located on CMH Road, the small eatery is a popular choice for lovers of tandoori chicken, well made naan and kulcha and the much loved dal tadka.

Given the fact that only nine people run the eatery, it is impressive to see the variety of items one can find – there are rolls, egg burji, biryani, kababs, tikka and pulao among other things. Some interesting Chinese dishes can also be had, including prawn noodles, egg fried rice, chicken lolly pop and the usual paneer or gobi manchurian.

Enough and more options are available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. For instance, mushroom itself can be prepared in six ways like mushroom curry,
‘mushroom 65’ or mushroom manchurian. The same applies to chicken, prawn and egg.
According to Rajeev, the owner, the reason why his eatery thrives is because of the fact that for the last two and a half years since it was established, the flavours have remained the same.

“Since we started, we have always been clear that we want to serve authentic North Indian cuisine and Indian Chinese. Everything sells, but most people come to us for our tandoori dishes like tandoori chicken and variety of rotis. The dum biryani is another fast moving item,” he informs.

“Lunch and dinner are the busiest time for us and for those few hours every day, we concentrate only on meeting the customers’ needs. That’s why people come back – for fast, affordable and tasty food. Families, youngsters, couples and professionals are the main crowd that we get,” adds Rajeev.

Quick service is offered, considering many regulars ask for home delivery or pick up the food themselves.

For the quantity of food served in each portion, the prices are reasonable too. A meal for one can be as cheap as Rs 30 depending on what one orders.
