Bannerghatta Rd houses flooded

Last Updated 15 December 2018, 14:26 IST

The heavy rains lashing through the city on Sunday night has left many places in the city flooded including Himagiri Meadows at Gottigere. The residents faced a tough time cleaning the slush that had entered their homes.

Manjula Devi, a resident, had to miss work on Monday to clean her house. “My husband went to work only in the afternoon and even my daughter could not go to her college. The slush is coming from the storm-water drain and we are afraid it may cause us some kind of infection,” she said.

Deepika Pandita, another resident, said it had become difficult to even step out. “We are unable to step out of the house as the road is filled with slush. My children had to miss their school today. We have been up since 2.30 last night and have been cleaning the house. Our neighbour’s beds were floating last night due to the rainwater,” she said.

Her neighbour Antony said that despite several complaints to the civic bodies to desilt the drains no action has been taken yet.

“This situation is happening for the second time in a couple of months. It is unfortunate that we have to bear the brunt once again,” said Deepika.

Meanwhile she finds solace in knowing that her pets are safe. “I am glad all my pets are safe. I have a few cats at home. I was more worried about them,” she added.

Following heavy rainfall on Monday night waterlogging was also reported in some homes in Jayanagar 4th T block, Dollars Colony, JP Nagar, Malleshwaram, AGS layout in Ittamadu.

According to the BBMP control room, two tree falls were reported in Shakambari Nagar and also in Katruguppe.

As an electric pole came crashing down in Girinagar 3rd block on Monday a tree caught fire. BBMP prahari rushed to the spot and doused it.
