A 45-year-old contractor died after a two-wheeler knocked him down near ITI gate in KR Puram on Friday night.

The police identified the deceased as Vijay Reddy, a resident of Kasturinagar and native of Andhra Pradesh.

Kamaraj, the two-wheeler rider, has been arrested and his bike seized.

According to the police, Reddy was supervising a road asphalting work on Old Madras Road near ITI gate around 9.20 pm. He was trying to relocate a barricade in order to restrict the entry of vehicles on the asphalted road. A speeding Kamaraj failed to control the bike on spotting Reddy and rammed into him. Reddy fell down and suffered fatal injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared ‘dead on arrival’. On being alerted, the police rushed to the spot and detained Kamaraj.
