A cabbie robbed a businessman of Rs 3.5 lakh moments after dropping him off in northern Bengaluru on Friday night. The victim turned out to be a taxi owner who was returning home after collecting the money from three of his own cab drivers.

Eregowda, who runs a transport agency, kept the monthly collections in a cash bag and hailed a cab near Jalahalli to go home. He got off at Laggere Cross around 11.30 pm and paid the fare from the cash bag. He then started walking in an isolated street. The cab driver saw the bag and realised it had lots of cash. He tailed Eregowda, pounced on him, snatched the bag and drove off. Eregowda raised an alarm but it was too late.

Eregowda later filed a complaint with the Peenya police who have opened a case of robbery and are hunting for the cabbie.
