A senior manager of Oriental Insurance Company (OIC) has been booked by the CBI for colluding with dummy insurance agents to cause losses to the company.

The FIR filed, based on preliminary investigations, revealed that OIC’s senior divisional manager Nalini Rao availed commissions and incentives in the name of two agents, which her father later withdrew from the bank account.

In 2008, Asha N R was appointed as an OIC agent and was posted to the Govindarajnagar divisional office, where Nalini was working as the divisional manager. When Asha was transferred in 2013, the agent’s licence was also transferred to the Sayyaji Rao Road branch in Mysuru.

When Nalini was transferred to the Gandhinagar branch in April 2016, Asha’s licence followed her. The agent’s licence is active till date.

When Nalini was in the Sayyaji Rao Road branch, another agent licence was registered in the name of Geetha Suvarna in 2014, which was transferred to the Gandhinagar branch in 2016.

The commission and incentives in the two names were credited in two bank accounts —State Bank of India, Malleswaram branch, and Karnataka State Co-operative Apex Bank in Jayanagar. Nalini’s father KKM Rao, who is dependent on her, held separate joint accounts with Asha and Geetha. The residential address mentioned in both the account opening forms was Nalini’s house address, the CBI stated in the report.

According to the OIC’s conduct, discipline and appeal rules, no employee or his family member shall act as an agent for the company.

The CBI has booked the senior divisional manager under IPC Sections 120 (b) and 420, and Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
