City MLAs express concern over illegal sites

Last Updated 27 March 2015, 20:01 IST

BJP MLAs from the City on Friday said that sub-registrars in north Bengaluru areas were allowing registration of illegally-formed sites using fictitious documents.

Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath told the Assembly that gramatana sites were being illegally registered as BBMP sites. “Sale deeds in several cases do not have the summary of the sale transaction. The sub-registrars, with the help of land developers and builders, are misusing security codes being used for property registration” he charged.

He said that the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) department gives 18-digit code to gramatana properties. It is not possible to register a gramatana site without the code. So sub-registrars are illegally using either BBMP or Urban Development Department codes for registering such properties, he claimed.

He said the department of Stamps and Registration has failed to stop illegal property registration. “In many cases, even government lands such as burial grounds and gomala are illegally registered in the name of landgrabbers. A sub-registrar gets a minimum of Rs 10 lakh as bribe per day. I tried to stop such illegality. But I was threatened of dire consequences,” he stated and added that he had documentary evidences to prove such illegal acts.

Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju said a majority of such illegal properties were located in the green belt area.

“There is no sanctity for green belt. Instead of turning a blind eye on such illegality, the government should allow development in the green belt area,” he added. Hebbal MLA Jagadish Kumar also said that he had come across such illegal property transactions in his constituency. Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa asked the government to seriously look into these issues and take appropriate steps.
