Cybercriminals target Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty

Bengaluru: Rajya Sabha Member Sudha Murty was on Thursday morning targeted by cybercriminals who attempted to obtain her personal information through a fraudulent phone call, the police confirmed. A case has been registered at the cyber crime police station based on her complaint.

According to the complaint, Murty received a call at 9.40 am on September 5. The caller, who identified himself as an employee of the Ministry of Telecommunications, informed her that her mobile number was not linked to her Aadhaar card and demanded her personal details to rectify the issue. The call, which came from the number [phone], was displayed as ‘Telecom Dept’ on the True Caller application.

When Murty questioned the caller, he became aggressive and threatened to disconnect her mobile connection at 12.00 pm, falsely claiming that pornographic videos were being broadcast from her number. The caller was reportedly very rude and persisted in his attempt to intimidate her into sharing sensitive information. Murty, however, refused to comply with his demands and disconnected the call.

The cyber crime police station has registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the caller and take legal action.
