DTP centre owner held for generating Aadhaar through fake rent agreements in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The police have arrested a DTP centre owner, who allegedly ran an elaborate scheme to obtain Aadhaar through fake rental agreements. 

Arnab Mandal, 30, originally from Kolkata and residing in Surya City on Bengaluru's southern outskirts, was arrested on November 22 after the police received a tip-off about the nature of operations at his DTP centre. 

The police said their raid on his shop yielded a number of fake rental agreements that Mandal allegedly created in the name of people who sought to apply for new Aadhaar enrolment, a senior police officer told DH. 

The police have seized at least 10 fake rental agreements. Mandal also created other fake documents to apply for a PAN card, which he eventually used to generate Aadhaar for his customers. He charged them Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 each, the officer said. 

Police investigations revealed that Mandal opened his DTP shop six years ago, while his Aadhaar card enterprise had been going on for over a year now. 

Police suspect that Mandal helped illegal immigrants obtain Aadhaar. 

Mandal has been booked under BNS sections related to cheating and forgery.
