Last Updated 27 June 2017, 18:49 IST
She is best known for her character ‘Krishna’ from the popular serial ‘Afsar Bitiya’, a show that catapulted  Mitaali Nag to fame.

All set to return to the television post pregnancy, she will now be seen in season 3 of ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon’. The talented actor dons many other caps too — that of a dancer, an adventure freak and a singer.

In a conversation with Surupasree Sarmmah, she  talks about her tryst with acting, her love for singing and the challenges she faced in the industry.

You are returning to television after a long break — what is going on in your mind at this moment?

I worked until the eighth month of my pregnancy, so it is not really a comeback. I had just taken a short medical break for a few months. I am doing a cameo in this show and I believe this is the best way forward for now.

A cameo will be the best thing to start with, just to see how much I can handle. I am taking my baby to the set as he is too small and I can’t leave him at home. So it will be a good chance to see how much he can adapt to this too.

How did acting come your way?

I actually did a short film for a friend of mine long ago. One of my then co-actor’s friend was the one who did the casting for ‘Afsar Bitiya’. He showed my picture to his friend and that’s how I got the role. Since it was a good role, I also agreed. I have always felt that I had to be in front of the camera, whether for singing or acting.

Any particular type of serials you would like to work in...

‘Afsar Bitiya’ was a dream break. I would love to take up similar roles that are inspirational and will leave an impact on people.

The biggest challenge in the industry...

The fact that people try to typecast you makes it difficult for an actor to different roles. Thankfully, I don’t face that  issue anymore. I have been offered a couple of very good roles so far.

Anything that you wish to change in the industry...

I would definitely like to do away with the daily soaps. The format has become
popular of late but what I am really fond of the seasonal shows that are making its way into the industry.

Your life’s philosophy...

‘Live and let live’.

Any Bollywood aspirations?

Definitely. Not just Bollywood, I have aspirations of going all the way to Hollywood and making my country proud.

An actor you would like to work with...

Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Also, I have a crush on Ranbir Kapoor (laughs).

How do you spend your time when you are not working?

At the moment, it is my baby who takes all my undivided attention. Otherwise, I like listening to music as well as  watching Western shows, as I get to learn a lot about acting from these. I also watch a lot of Indian classics. I am a good cook, so I sometimes cook as well.

What are your other interests?

I am an adventurous person. Travel plays an important part in my life. My husband and I love travelling and we take at least three tours every year.
