Bengaluru: Six gelatin sticks and 12 detonators were found in a carry bag at a BMTC bus stand in western Bengaluru on Wednesday.

“Six gelatin sticks and detonators (both separate) were found in a carry bag outside the toilet at the Kalasipalya BMTC bus stand,” S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said.

Jurisdictional Kalasipalya police and the bomb squad arrived at the spot and recovered the explosive substances.

The Kalasipalya police registered the FIR under relevant Sections of the Explosive Substances Act and the Explosives Act. Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances) and 61(1)(a) and (b) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were also invoked, the police said.
.
The FIR was filed following a complaint by Mallappa R Kattimani, Assistant Traffic Superintendent. Kattimani told the police that at around 1.15 pm, two of his security staff gave him a bag that they found near the gent’s washroom, dropped by an unknown person.

Suspecting something was wrong, Kattimani alerted the police control room, the FIR noted. The police arrived, and when the bag was opened, the gelatin sticks and detonator lines were found.

“Preliminary probe has revealed that an unidentified person dropped the bag there. It appears as if the gelatin sticks were those being used in quarries. As of now, it doesn’t appear that a mischief was planned since the gelatin sticks and the detonators were separate,” a senior police officer said.

“The bag was kept on the table in front of the washroom. The bag was dropped there when the caretaker was away. It appears as though the person was suddenly scared by looking at some officials — even some BMTC officials dress in khakis — mistaking them for the police and dropping off the bag. The suspect is yet to be identified,” he added.
